Balancing Life & The Side Hustle

You wake up, make coffee, get dressed, study last minute for an exam you have in an hour and/or head to work. You're finally finished with your day just to come home, shower, and fall asleep halfway through an episode of Narcos (my current binge lol). It is way too easy to get caught up in your every-day routine that you forget about yourself. Once you forget about yourself, you forget about your passion, or as most of us can call it, our “side hustle.” You have to feed your side hustle because one day it’ll be your MAIN hustle. So how exactly can you balance both? Below I’ll share with you my input on this…

 

Balance:

 

People often tell you that you need to find “balance” in your life… Balance to me is meshing everything together. It is being transparent in my personal life, work life, and love life. There is really no such thing as creating little boxes for everything you have going on. Instead, you can prioritize important tasks you have on hand and tackle them one at a time. Something else I find important is scheduling time for everything; whether that be 30 minutes to have lunch with your partner, hanging out with your dog for 15, meditating for 10, etc. Make the time for what matters.

 

Motivation:

 

For a while I was super obsessed with personal development and the idea of listening to life coaches tell you what do do in order to live the most fulfilling life imaginable. Sure, a lot of what they say is super encouraging and you best believe I was out the door headed to the gym the second I finished a podcast. But it wasn't until I heard one of my close friends podcast “Motivation Sucks,” that I really got to thinking: Is there really such thing as “motivation?” NOPE. That feeling of motivation is just a few moments of optimism that really get you going. He explains in this episode that adults don't need motivation, they need actions. We do y'all. We can’t rely on anything else besides ourselves (and coffee) to get us going.

Self-care!!!

 

 I cannot stress this one enough. Do one thing that makes you happy every single day. Whether that is going to the gym, taking your pup for a poochie cone at Caliches, reading a couple pages from your favorite book, putting on a face mask, going on a quick hike, etc. You can't perform your best unless you feel your best. 

 

 


There is never a "right" way to balance life. We can all be hot messes at times, but the point is to make time for your passion, make time for the people that support you through your crazy ideas, and most importantly, make time for yourself. One day we will all look back to realize all the craziness in our lives was totally worth it.
